Latest newsletter - December 2011

Another action-packed Summer season has whistled past us again and we are now knocking on the door of Christmas.  From weddings and festivals to Bonfire nights and Christmas Pudding Ice Cream – we have lots to catch up on.

Throughout this Summer our ice cream van has been attending lots of lovely events at Pendennis Castle from a Firepower display to Medieval jousting and the Miracle Theatre’s production of The Death of Sherlock Holmes.  It has been great to be part of the action.

Earlier in the Summer we were approached by a lovely couple, James & Charlotte, who had dreams of an ice cream wedding cake for their big day in September. After lots of discussing and scratching of heads the 4 tiers of ‘cakes’ were created (with added strengthening measures) and beautifully decorated by James & Charlotte. It was transferred from freezer to table at the last moment and obviously stood up to the test as it was served to the guests as a dessert. They sent us this lovely picture of the finished product taken by their photographer Gemma Burleigh which shows just how lovely it looked (and tasted too apparently). The couple went for the classic combo of Clotted Cream Vanilla, Clotted Cream & Strawberries and Chocolate Fudge to cater for all tastes.  Congratulations James & Charlotte.

We took part in the Truro Food & Drink Festival, which is always a pleasure to be a part of with loads of lovely Cornish food producers attending and plenty going on with the involvement of lots of really talented Cornish chefs. We sold plenty of ice creams and it’s always a really nice opportunity to meet some of our customers and a great boost for us because we always get some lovely feedback too.

In to October and things started calming a little as the children went back to school, until a burst of tropical weather arrived and our customers couldn’t get enough ice cream.  Angela was even featured on the local BBC news as they reported how the beautiful weather was affecting local businesses.  Sales up 50% on the same 2 week period the previous year.  Hoorah!

Our open day was held in October too; with farm walks, pumpkin carving and crafts.  It was a really busy day with loads of fun had by all.

The next weekend, and a wedding reception in the tearoom.  The wedding ceremony had been held abroad and so it was to be a tea-party style celebration with a tower of cupcakes, little triangle sandwiches and Cornish Cyder Farm bubbly. Delicious.

The end of October came and we picked a break in the weather to harvest our maize ready for the herd’s winter rations. Lots of busy boys on tractors…

We held a bonfire night celebration at the farm on 5th Nov for the village of Callestick and employees. Guy Fawkes was placed on top of the fire followed by a fabulous firework display and hot toddy and munchies. We raised over £276 for the excellent work of Cornwall Hospice Care who offer specialist palliative care to people with life limiting illnesses at their two hospices. Lots of fun and for a good cause to boot – proper job!

And finally, our Christmas Pudding Ice Creams are going like hot cakes... I mean cold cakes... Hmmm?! Brandied soaked fruit & nuts in a delicious brandy ice cream - a refreshing alternative to a very heavy pudding after the turkey & trimmings. They turn out of their basin onto a plate to be decorated with a sprig of holly & sliced rather like a normal pudding but oh so delicious. We are selling them from the farm or call us for somewhere closer to you.

Sorry it’s been too long since we last wrote, it makes for a very long newsletter I’m afraid.  Wishing you all a fabulous Christmas and all the best for 2012.  Keep us posted with your pictures and info and why not join us on Facebook?
