The latter end of the summer has proven a busy one ......
The Family Farm Open Day was a great success! Thanks to all of you who came, the weather was fairly kind to us and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves. There was certainly lots going on with tree identification for the older children (and adults!), face mask decorating, pumpkin carving and of course ice cream eating! The day also proved a happy one for Jamie Partridge who was the winner of our Jack’s Cow Competition to win a year’s supply of ice cream – which was some consolation to him as the previous week he had broken his arm! It was drawn by Jean Bunny, a visitor on the day.
We were happy to be a part of The Food Festival on Lemon Quay in Truro again this year, it attracted lots of real foodies as usual and it is always lovely to meet some of our customers who are always so generous with their praise for the ice cream and have lots of suggestions for us which are always appreciated.
There has been plenty happening on the farm over the last couple of months, in particular the harvesting of our maize silage which forms an important element of our cow’s winter ration. The cattle are now safely tucked up inside as the weather has gone down hill quite suddenly and the wet ground was beginning to suffer the effects of all those hooves. Sam, the Farm Manager, has been joined by a new herdsman, Shaun, who is a real asset and brings a good deal of knowledge and experience with him.
The Farm Shop and Tearoom is still open from Wed-Saturday and there is now a wealth of Christmas goodies, both gifts and festive foods. We have a good stock of Crellow Chutneys and relishes, Sisleys preserves, Furniss Biscuits gift boxes, locally made jewellery and crafts and of course the famous Callestick Farm Christmas Ice Cream range. We make a 1 litre basin of both Christmas Pudding ice cream and Chocolate Brandy Truffle ice cream. Christmas Pudding is a brandy ice cream with brandy soaked fruit and roasted nuts, and the chocolate brandy truffle is chocolate truffle ice cream laced with brandy and decorated with amaretti biscuits – a delicious refreshing alternative to the norm.
Finally, I just want to thank Gwendoline and Ross Treseder for sending us in this fabulous picture of their daughter Tegan, possibly our youngest fan at 6 months old! She is pictured here enjoying her first taste of Callestick Farm Ice Cream’s Clotted Cream and Strawberries ice cream in the tearoom at Heligan Gardens – it is clearly going down very well! As Gwendoline said in her email ‘It's never too early to teach them to eat local!’ – our sentiments exactly.
Please contact us with any feedback or photos, we love to hear from you.
We’ll write again soon.
