Latest newsletter - July 2010
It has been far too long since our last newsletter and plenty has happened .....
We have three new Kune Kune piglets in the car park area. We bought them from market and they were quite nervous at first. Tanyia, our telesales lady, has been giving them lots of attention since their arrival and they are now quite friendly. We are yet to name them – they answer to ‘pigs’ – very original! Let us know if you have any suggestions.
Our ice cream van attends lots of events and shows throughout the summer season and we felt it was looking a little tired when it emerged from the barn this year, decked out in our old logo and colours. Fenton, in the workshop, has re-sprayed it in our eye-catching pink tone and it has been beautifully sign written with our up-to-date branding. A group of cows now peer at you from the back view and our biggest fans, Amelia and Rebecca, adorn the sides. It has been a real hit so far – keep an eye out for it on your travels.
We have also been the lucky bidder on a Piaggio – a tiny Italian mobile unit with a canopy that raises up from the box at the back to display a scooping freezer. Again, we have splashed it in our colours and some lovely cow pics and it’s looking super!
Callestick Farm supply many of the National Trust properties with their delicious Cornish Dairy Ice Cream and back at Easter, inspired by the selection of Antony House as the location of Tim Burton’s film Alice in Wonderland, a new ice cream flavour was launched to mark the occasion – Queen of Hearts Jam Tart. Having seen the film, there is mention of the Queen’s stolen jam tarts and it has made a really quirky ice cream. It is available throughout the Summer season from Lanhydrock, Trelissick and Cotehele.
Shaun Ferkin, Callestick Farm Ice Cream’s herdsman, loves his cows and through a conversation on Facebook, his favourite, Amelia, has now been illustrated in all her glory by Nicky Harwood, AKA ‘The Cow Lady’.
Shaun spotted Nicky’s work at a show and searched out her page on Facebook posting: ‘I need some of these pictures in my life … I stare at the back end of cows all day, it's nice to see the front end sometimes??’ It wasn’t long before Nicky paid a visit to Callestick Farm, to meet Shaun and of course the Callestick herd and to take some photos to work on a new picture.
Like Shaun, Nicky has been a fan of cows since she was a teenager. She chose cows as the subject of her A-Level in Art and has been painting them fervently ever since with the majority of her illustrations featuring our bovine friends!
Nicky’s picture of Amelia is now complete, set on a vibrant pink background for a really dramatic effect. All Nicky’s pictures, including ‘Amelia’ can be seen on her website www.thecowlady.co.uk .
That’s all for now, we’ll write soon - we promise! Please contact us with any feedback or photos, we love to hear from you.
